Chargeback
A reversal of a card payment initiated by the cardholder or their bank, weeks or months after the original transaction.
Chargeback is the consumer-side reversal mechanism on card networks (Visa, Mastercard). The cardholder disputes a charge with their bank; the bank pulls the money back from the merchant pending investigation. Chargebacks are the main reason digital-goods resellers prefer crypto-settled inbound payments — a successful card chargeback weeks after delivery means the reseller delivered the code for free. Crypto settlements (USDT, Binance Pay) have no chargeback mechanism.
